Under new rules that went into effect July 29, VOIP carriers who connect with the public telephone network are required notify their customers of any limitations to their E911 service, including where and under what conditions it may not be available. Importantly, VOIP carriers must also obtain "affirmative acknowledgement" from every customer that they have received and understood that information. Carriers who do not provide E911 service will be required to do so, but the rules for that go into effect November 28, subject to OMB approval. VoiceLog E911Alert starts with an automated outbound call that plays a message with the required information, then asks for confirmation of receipt and understanding. Options include voice recording of the customer’s response, an inbound number to call back with a response, live agent failover and Internet integration. For this service, pricing starts at less than $0.10 per call. The Benefits of E911Alert™
